E6013 Welding Rod

E6013 Welding Rod

Property Category Detailed Description
Core Type Definition It is a low-carbon steel welding electrode, defined as a general-purpose electrode in the American Welding Society (AWS) A5.1 standard. In the designation "E6013": "E" stands for Electrode; "60" indicates that the minimum tensile strength of the deposited metal is 60,000 psi (approximately 414 MPa); "13" means the coating type is rutile-based and it is compatible with both AC and DC power sources.
Coating Type & Composition It adopts a rutile-type coating, with main components including titanium oxide (TiO₂, accounting for approximately 30%-40%), potassium salts (e.g., K₂CO₃), and silicates. The coating has a moderate thickness, about 30%-40% of the core diameter, which can stabilize the arc and form a uniformly covered slag.
Core Material The electrode core is made of low-carbon steel (carbon content ≤ 0.12%), with a diameter range of 1.6-5.0 mm. Common specifications are 2.5 mm, 3.2 mm, and 4.0 mm, ensuring proper coordination with the coating to form the appropriate deposited metal composition.
Welding Position Adaptability Supports all-position welding:
- Flat welding (1G): Stable molten pool, high welding efficiency
- Vertical welding (3G): Upward vertical welding is feasible; slag has moderate fluidity and is easy to control
- Horizontal welding (2G): Good weld formation, low spatter
- Overhead welding (4G): Easy arc control, suitable for overhead welding of thin workpieces
Not suitable for vertical-down welding (due to high risk of molten pool sagging).
Power Source Compatibility Compatible with both alternating current (AC) and direct current (DC) power sources:
- AC power source: High versatility, suitable for various AC welding machines; arc stability is slightly lower than that of DC
- DC power source: DC electrode negative (DCEN, electrode connected to positive terminal) is recommended, which can reduce spatter (spatter rate ≤ 5%), improve arc concentration, and enable more precise penetration control; DC electrode positive (DCEP) is also usable but with slightly higher spatter.
Arc Characteristics The arc is soft and stable, easy to strike, and has excellent re-ignition performance (success rate of re-ignition after arc interruption ≥ 95%). It has a wide adaptive range of arc length (1-3 mm for stable welding), making it suitable for intermittent welding operations.
Applicable Base Material Range Mainly used for welding low-carbon steel (e.g., Q235, A3 steel) and low-alloy high-strength steel (tensile strength ≤ 500 MPa grade). It has strong adaptability to base materials with mild rust (rust rate ≤ 5%) or slight oil contamination (oil content ≤ 0.5%), and can be welded without strict pre-treatment.
Electrode Positioning It is a general-purpose, user-friendly electrode that balances welding quality and operation efficiency. It is widely used in industrial manufacturing, maintenance, and repair scenarios, especially suitable for welding beginners or operations with high requirements for weld appearance.
