In recent years, China's welding equipment manufacturing industry has made great progress. The completeness of welding equipment, automation, manufacturing precision and overall quality have been significantly improved, and its application range is gradually expanding. Especially after China has formulated a policy of stimulating domestic demand, the welding equipment manufacturing industry has accelerated its development. Although in China, the annual output value of welding equipment is less than 500 million yuan, it plays a decisive role in the technological progress of China's welded structure industry. It can be expected that in the next 10 years, as the world manufacturing center gradually shifts to China, China's traditional manufacturing industry will accelerate technological transformation in accordance with modern standards. The extensive use of highly automated processing equipment and welding equipment is an inevitable trend in industrial modernization and will promote fundamental changes in China's welding equipment manufacturing industry.

    Since the beginning of the new century, the development trend of China's welded structure manufacturing industry has been large-scale, large-scale, high-parameterization and precision, including more than 1000MW of firepower, hydropower and nuclear power generation equipment, with an annual output of more than 600,000 tons. Chemical refinery, coal liquefaction plant with an annual output of more than 10 million tons, ocean freighter and tanker of more than 100,000 tons, various metallurgical and heavy machinery, aerospace engineering, large and high-rise building structures, long-span bridges, trans-provincial transnational Oil and gas pipelines, marine buildings, large passenger cars and high-speed rail vehicles. In 2004, the steel consumption of welded structures in China will exceed 100 million tons, ranking first in the world. In order to achieve the above development goals: the ever-higher requirements for the technical characteristics and quality of welding equipment are required, and various high-performance, high-precision, highly automated and integrated advanced welding equipment are urgently needed. For example, a large enterprise in China imported a 12.5×10m super large column beam welding machine and its supporting equipment from Sweden ESAB. Another company also introduced a special large-scale welding operation machine with a maximum stroke of 2m from the head of ZAB from ESAB, which is used for automatic submerged arc welding of elliptical shells. In addition, many companies have introduced similar large scales from abroad. Automated welding equipment, the total contract value of imported automatic welding equipment imported from abroad in 2003 was nearly 100 million US dollars.

    China's welding equipment manufacturing industry started relatively late compared with general welding equipment. In the 1950s and 1960s, most of the large-scale welding equipment of key industrial enterprises in China was introduced from the former Soviet Union. Partly designed and manufactured by the use factory, in the 1990s, China has successively set up a number of manufacturing plants specializing in the production of welding equipment. For example, Shanghai and Chengdu have successively set up complete sets of welding equipment factories. During the “Sixth Five-Year Plan”, the former Ministry of Machinery Industry will allocate funds. Changchun No. 2 Machine Tool Plant was transformed into the first Changchun welding machine factory in China with mass production capacity and special welding machines and welding equipment. Since the 1980s, with the rapid growth of demand for welding equipment in China, a number of small and medium-sized welding equipment manufacturers have been established. So far, there are more than 10 enterprises in China that have consistently and stably produced welding equipment. Some enterprises have a large scale, such as Wuxi Yangtong Machinery Equipment Co., Ltd., Chengdu Welding Research Weida Automatic Welding Equipment Co., Ltd., Tangshan Kaiyuan Automatic Welding System Co., Ltd. and Wuxi Hualian Welding and Cutting Equipment Factory, the annual sales of the listed companies have exceeded 100 million yuan. In 2004, the total output value of China's welding equipment manufacturing industry is expected to exceed RMB 1 billion.
