Secondary Drying (for Mildly Moist Electrodes)
Secondary drying is required for electrodes exposed to air beyond allowable limits or showing signs of mild moisture absorption (e.g., dull coating texture without efflorescence).
Trigger Conditions:
Exposure time exceeding 4 hours at ≤60% humidity or 2 hours at ＞60% humidity.
Storage in non-hermetic conditions for ＞24 hours post-primary drying.
Process Parameters:
Heat to 300–350℃ (lower than primary drying to prevent coating degradation).
Hold at temperature for 1 hour.
Restrictions: Limit secondary drying to 1 cycle per batch. Multiple cycles weaken coatings, increasing slag inclusion risks.
Post-Drying Transfer
After drying, immediately transfer electrodes to a preheated holding oven (80–120℃) using heat-resistant gloves. Minimize transfer time to ≤30 seconds to prevent reabsorption of atmospheric moisture.
For short-term storage (＜24 hours), electrodes may remain in the drying oven set to 80–120℃.
